The BMA Standard 11 Online Refresher course is available exclusively to BMA employees and contractors. It is designed to refresh and extend your knowledge of mine safety requirements and industry regulations, while ensuring you remain up to date with the latest BMA policies, procedures and site expectations.
Standard 11 competencies must be renewed every five years to maintain compliance and support a safe, productive working environment on-site.

The BMA Standard 11 online refresher course is only available for BMA employees and contractors who have previously completed their Standard 11 training and need to update their competencies to maintain compliance for work on BMA sites. This refresher program reinforces your understanding of essential mine safety protocols, hazard management, risk assessment, and emergency procedures while ensuring you’re aligned with the latest BMA policies, site standards, and legislative requirements.
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and six accredited units of competency.
RIIWHS201E - Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures.
RIIERR205D - Apply initial response first aid.
RIIGOV201E - Comply with site work processes/procedures.
RIIRIS201E - Conduct local risk control.
RIICOM201E - Communicate in the workplace.
RIIERR302E - Respond to local emergencies and incidents.
BMA may require you to refresh these competencies every 5 years.
This refresher course is delivered online, so you can complete your training anytime, anywhere with internet access. The program features interactive modules, videos, and real-world scenarios to refresh your knowledge and strengthen your ability to work safely at heights. You’ll have 30 days from enrolment to complete the course.
Assessment is competency-based and ensures you can apply safe work practices with confidence. It includes:
Interactive quizzes and knowledge checks throughout the course
Scenario-based questions to demonstrate practical understanding
A final assessment to confirm your skills and compliance are current
* Most people can complete this refresher course within 2-4 hours depending on prior knowledge and experience.
To enrol in this refresher course, students must:
Provide a BMA Employee ID or Service Contractor (SC) number and your BMA site.
Be at least 15 years of age.
Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
Students must provide the following evidence:
A clear copy of your driver's licence or other photo identification.
A Statement of Attainment issued by an RTO listing the Standard 11 competencies that is less than 5 years old. In case you don't have access to your current Statement of Attainment, you can obtain a VET Transcript from your USI student portal. Note: Wallet cards will not be accepted unless they meet AQF requirements for an accredited Statement of Attainment.

To avoid delay in processing and issuing your Statement of Attainment, please ensure payment or a company purchase order is provided at enrolment.
If you are submitting a USI transcript, it must include a QR verification code.
If the student does not meet the refresher eligibility requirements and is required to complete the full course, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component. This can be delivered at any of our training facilities across Australia.

The BMA Standard 11 course itself does not expire, as it comprises nationally-recognised units of competency. Once you successfully complete it, you are issued a Statement of Attainment, which remains valid indefinitely.
However:
Some employers (including BMA) may require refresher training or re-assessment every 2-5 years to ensure your knowledge is up to date with current legislation and site procedures. Please speak to your supervisor for more information.
