Your First Step to Working Safely on a BMA Site

The BMA Core Induction course is available exclusively to BMA employees and contractors and provides the essential knowledge and understanding required to work safely, responsibly, and in full compliance across all BMA operations. As a core component of BMA’s onboarding process, this induction is mandatory for anyone accessing a BMA site.

Throughout the course, you’ll gain a clear understanding of BMA’s values, safety culture, organisational structure, and legal obligations, ensuring you’re fully prepared to contribute to a safe, compliant, and productive work environment from day one.

BMA Core Induction - Course Information

The BMA Core Induction prepares new BMA employees and contractors to safely and effectively perform their roles across BMA sites. It provides a comprehensive introduction to BMA’s safety standards, policies, and site expectations, ensuring every participant clearly understands their responsibilities before accessing site.

The course covers key topics including:

  • BMA’s company values and safety culture

  • Legislation and your compliance

  • Safety and Health Management Systems (SHMS)

  • Roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations under workplace health and safety legislation

  • BMA Life Saving Rules and Emergency Procedures

  • Hazard identification, risk management, and reporting procedures

By the end of the course, you’ll be fully prepared to work safely and responsibly within BMA operations, supporting a culture where safety, compliance, and teamwork come first on every site.

Please note - New Starters: if you have never worked at a Queensland coal mine before, you need to complete the Standard 11 induction in addition to the BMA Core Induction.

Course delivery and assessment

The BMA Induction Course is delivered in person over half a day, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with our experienced trainers in a supportive learning environment. Throughout the session, you’ll receive constructive feedback after each assessment, with trainers available to answer questions, clarify concepts, and provide additional guidance where needed. This hands-on approach ensures you complete the course with confidence and a clear understanding of your safety responsibilities on site.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the BMA Core Induction, you will be awarded a Statement of Completion for:

  • BMA Core Induction

This is not a nationally-accredited qualification.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this course, students must:

  • Provide a BMA Employee ID or Service Contractor (SC) number and your BMA site.

  • Be at least 15 years of age.

  • Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.

  • Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.

  • Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.

When will I receive my Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the BMA Core Induction course?

On successful completion of the BMA Core Induction course (both theory and practical components) and receipt of payment, your Statement of Attainment will be issued within 24-48 hours.
