Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (CV) - over 10 tonnes (TLILIC0024) - Course Information
The Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (CV) course provides practical, hands-on training for safely operating vehicle-mounted loading cranes with a capacity of 10 tonnes or more. You’ll learn how to plan lifts, secure loads, set up stabilisers, and operate the crane in various site conditions. The course focuses on real-world load handling, hazard control, and compliance, ensuring you can perform crane operations confidently and safely.
By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to conduct vehicle loading crane operations independently and meet all legislative and workplace requirements for high-risk lifting tasks. You’ll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: WHS obligations, licensing requirements, and workplace safety regulations for vehicle loading crane operations.
Crane Setup: Positioning the vehicle, deploying stabilisers/outriggers, and checking site conditions before lifting.
Pre-Operational Checks: Inspecting the crane, lifting attachments, vehicle condition, and load restraints.
Load Planning: Calculating load weights, selecting lifting equipment, and interpreting lifting diagrams and load charts.
Crane Operation: Safely operating the vehicle loading crane, managing load swing, boom control, and placement accuracy.
Load Securing & Tie-Down: Correctly restraining loads before transport to meet load restraint standards.
Post-Operational Procedures: Stowing equipment, retracting stabilisers, shutting down the crane, and completing post-use inspections.
Communication & Teamwork: Working effectively with doggers, riggers, and ground crew to ensure safe lifting operations.
Emergency Procedures: Responding appropriately to incidents such as equipment faults, overload conditions, or load instability.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to operate vehicle loading cranes safely, secure loads for transport, and meet all compliance requirements across transport, construction, logistics, and industrial environments.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Due to the high-risk nature of crane operation, the Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (CV) course is delivered face-to-face over 4-5 days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.
High Risk Work Licences
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).
