The Certificate II in Resources & Infrastructure Work Preparation (RII20120) gives you the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to begin a career in the mining, civil construction, and resource industries.
You’ll learn how to:
Identify and control workplace hazards
Work safely and follow workplace health and safety procedures
Follow environmental and site work procedures to support daily operations
Communicate effectively and operate as part of a team on-site
Use and maintain a range of hand and power tools
Operate a forklift safely and efficiently
Perform basic dogging and rigging operations
Enter and work safely in confined spaces
Work safely at heights
Training is focused on real-world industry practices, helping you build the hands-on experience, safety awareness, and teamwork skills needed to step confidently into entry-level roles across Australia’s resources and infrastructure sectors.
Course Delivery and Assessment
The Certificate II in Resources & Infrastructure Work Preparation is delivered face-to-face, providing a practical and engaging learning experience designed to prepare you for entry-level roles across the resources, mining, and civil construction industries. Under the guidance of experienced trainers, you’ll participate in hands-on training activities that reflect real workplace conditions, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and industry readiness. You have 12 months to complete the course.
Assessment is competency-based, meaning you’ll be evaluated on your ability to perform tasks and apply knowledge in realistic workplace scenarios. This includes:
Practical demonstrations of workplace skills and safe work practices in resources and infrastructure settings
Observation of tasks in simulated or real work environments
Written assessments to confirm your understanding of key concepts, including WHS requirements
This practical training approach ensures you gain both the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to work safely and effectively on mining, civil, and infrastructure sites, while building a strong foundation for further training and employment in the industry.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students will need:
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and online modules)
Adequate language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments, and;
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.

This course is approved under Career Start, the Queensland Government’s training initiative replacing the Certificate III Guarantee (effective 1 July 2025). Career Start provides eligible Queenslanders with government-subsidised training to help them begin a Certificate III qualification, and potentially an apprenticeship or traineeship, selected from priority or emerging industries.Check your eligibility or contact us for more information.

Concessional Student - $30.00
Non-Concessional Student - $50.00
VETiS Funding - this course is eligible for VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools) funding, which provides eligible secondary school students with the opportunity to undertake nationally-recognised training at little or no cost. VETiS funding helps students gain practical skills and qualifications while completing their senior secondary studies, giving them a head start in rural and agricultural industries.

The Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation course takes approximately 3-6 months to complete. You will be required to complete online learning modules and attend face-to-face training for the practical assessments.
There are no formal entry requirements. However, students will need:
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication)
Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.
Your Statement of Attainment is typically issued within 3-5 business days after you successfully complete all assessments and all required enrolment, USI and payment requirements are satisfied.
