Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck (TLILIC0003) - Course Information
The Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck course provides you with the practical knowledge and hands-on experience to safely operate a forklift. You’ll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS and workplace requirements for forklift operation.
Hazard Identification: Learn to identify workplace hazards and operational risks.
Risk Assessment & Planning: Plan safe operations and implement control measures.
Pre-Start Checks & Maintenance: Inspect forklifts and perform routine safety checks.
Load Handling Techniques: Safely load, stack, and move materials.
Safe Operating Procedures: Operate forklifts efficiently while minimising risks.
Emergency Procedures: Respond effectively to incidents and workplace emergencies.
Shutdown Procedures: Shut down and secure the forklift truck after operations.
Communication & Reporting: Report hazards and incidents in line with workplace procedures.
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in your ability to operate a forklift safely, manage hazards, and comply with workplace safety standards.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Due to the high-risk nature of operating forklifts, the Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck course is delivered face-to-face. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.

1-day - For experienced operators (WA)
2-day - For inexperienced operators (WA)
3-day - For those enrolling in a forklift course in QLD
High Risk Work Licences
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).

This unit is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and contributes to the skills and competencies required for forklift work. Entry Requirements
You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in this course:
You must be at least 18 years old (a requirement for High Risk Work Licences).
Wear steel-capped or safety boots to your session and PPE.
Have basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication).
Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
