The Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations course provides practical, hands-on training for individuals required to operate non-slewing cranes safely and competently in live work environments. This nationally recognised unit focuses on building real-world capability, not just compliance.
Participants will learn how to prepare and inspect equipment, assess lifting tasks, apply safe work procedures, and conduct controlled lifting operations with site requirements and Australian standards. This course is suitable for workers entering the industry, upskilling existing personnel, or those requiring formal competency for site access and compliance.

The Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate non-slewing cranes in construction, civil, and industrial work environments. Through hands-on, scenario-based training, participants learn to plan lifting tasks, assess hazards, conduct pre-operational inspections, and perform controlled lifts in line with site procedures and safety requirements.
Throughout this course you’ll learn:
How to plan and prepare lifting tasks safely and effectively
Conduct pre-operational checks on non-slewing cranes and equipment
Identify and manage hazards associated with lifting operations
Apply safe lifting techniques and load control procedures
Use signaling methods to coordinate lifts and communicate on site
Respond to common lifting challenges and maintain compliance with site procedures
The Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations (RIIHAN212E) is a nationally recognised unit of competency from the Resources and Infrastructure Training Package. It is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a non-slewing crane in a workplace setting.
Throughout the RIIHAN212E course, you’ll gain hands-on practical experience in a controlled training environment, building both confidence and competence. Our experienced trainers provide direct guidance and personalised feedback to ensure you leave with the practical capability to operate safely and effectively.
Please note, this unit does not provide a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). This means it does not authorise you to legally operate a non-slewing crane on worksites where a HRWL is required under WHS legislation.
If you require a High Risk Work Licence to operate a non-slewing crane (CN class), we also deliver the Licence to Operate a Non-Slewing Crane (TLILIC0040) course, which includes the mandated assessment for HRWL eligibility.
The Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations (RIIHAN212E) course is suited to individuals who are required to operate a non-slewing crane as part of their role but may not require a High Risk Work Licence.
This course is ideal for:
Workers in civil construction, infrastructure, mining and resources
Plant operators and multi-skilled machinery operators
Tradespeople who operate non-slewing cranes as part of daily site activities
Supervisors or team leaders overseeing lifting operations
Personnel working in environments where non-slewing crane operation forms part of broader plant operations
It is particularly suitable for workplaces where crane operation is task-specific and carried out under site-based competency requirements.
If you need to legally operate a non-slewing mobile crane over 3 tonnes in capacity in a High Risk Work environment, you will require the Licence to Operate a Non-Slewing Crane (TLILIC0040) instead.
Completing the Conduct Non-Slewing Crane Operations course prepares you for a variety of roles across multiple industries such as:
Non-Slewing Crane Operator
Lifting Operations Worker
Plant Operator (Lifting Equipment)
Dogging Assistant / Load Handler
Materials Handling Operator
